Photographing Pelicans

On Florida’s Gulf coast, pelicans are ubiquitous. Though I’ve lived here for nearly twenty years, coming from the Midwest makes them endlessly exotic—and I still photograph them whenever I encounter them.

My lifelong interests in modern birds and prehistoric animals intersect on pelicans. When I see a pelican, my thoughts go to animals like the Ikrandraco avatar or an oceanic soaring pteranodon species.
