The 1st Hiko Sentai was the oldest, most prestigious fighter unit in the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force. It operated the superb Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate during the final year of World War II. The transition to the Ki-84 transformed the veteran unit into a lethal interception force during the desperate defense of the Philippines and the Japanese home islands.
